Let's Get Tight

Due to an increased number of tire-related incidents stemming from loose lug nuts, we at Diamond-Cargo would like to make a Trailer Talk Service Announcement.

For your safety, as well as the well-being of other motorists you share the road with, it’s imperative to adhere to the tire checklist, as well as all other Inspection, Service and Maintenance guidelines featured in your owner’s manuals.

As part of the new trailer owner package, Diamond-Cargo provides a form with instructions when to tighten the lug nuts during the “breaking-in” stages of towing an enclosed cargo trailer. Drivers are required to sign this form acknowledging those instructions.

Wheel lugs can shift and settle quickly after being initially assembled, and must be checked after the first 10, 25 and 50 miles of towing an enclosed trailer. Failure to perform this check may result in a wheel coming loose from the trailer, causing a crash, leading to death or serious injury.

Also, it’s important to remember that improper tightening of the lug nuts or bolts voids the axle warranty. Refer to the image below for lug tightening/loosening patterns.

Image features the pattern to tigthen lugs for special trailer tires with 5,6, and 8 lug nuts.
